Why am I the one?
I am a neurodivergent teacher with 10 years of experience in special education, including 8 years in a center-based program for students with emotional impairments. In that time, I developed expertise in reading, diffusing, and preventing challenging behaviors. My personal experience with ADHD and Oppositional Defiant Disorder as a child has informed much of this expertise. As a behavioral kid who often got kicked out of classrooms, I remember feeling like I was trying my best, but I was overstimulated, stressed, and in need of help that I didn't know how to ask for.
Now, working in a behavioral program, I see my students exhibiting similar behaviors for similar reasons. This inspired me to create this toolkit, as I know teachers want to help all of their students, and with the right tools, they can.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:Ā
Ā Q: Hi! Does your Neurodivergent Toolkit also include the ADHD toolkit? If not, what might help me decide which to try first?
A:The Neurodivergent Toolkit addresses motivation theory, needs, and the stress response. It provides strategies for adapting instruction and the classroom environment to enhance learning accessibility, considering safety, comfort, autonomy, belonging, and competency. The ND toolkit also explores the typical strengths and struggles of individuals with ADHD, autism, sensory processing differences, and anxiety/trauma, highlighting how their needs are often compromised. The ND Toolkit also explains how to analyze behavior to find which need has been compromised. So it is way more comprehensive in dealing with behavior, motivation and neurodivergent profiles.
In contrast, the ADHD Toolkit narrows down and focuses on how the ADHD brain learns and how ADHD affects emotional regulation, motivation, self-esteem, attention, self-regulation/impulse control, and memory. It offers strategies and supports tailored to address these specific impairments. It is almost as big and is comparable in the number of strategies offered but is much more specific.Ā
The strategies offered in both are different and applicable to any student, really, because who doesn't like supports... it's why I bundled them.Ā

I had a student with diagnosed ADHD who was hardly getting any work done, was constantly off-task, and was interrupting lessons and the learning of others ALL THE TIME. I had a conversation with this particular student using the interview questions provided in the toolkit. After having the conversation, the student did a COMPLETE 180! He's now one of the first to get his work done, he's checking in with me constantly to make sure he's on track, AND he lets me know if something in our classroom environment or anything else is hindering him from being successful. He's making such positive choices for himself and it's been amazing to see! Once his needs were met, he was a completely different kid!
The Toolkit is excellent, comprehensive, and well-organized. The tips are carefully selected and will undoubtedly be applicable.
This toolkit was sent to me (thank you!) in the middle of a very tough school year. I had a class with very diverse needs and for the first time in my teaching career felt lost very and like I had no support. This toolkit restored my confidence by helping me understand my students and giving me new ways to reach them. It took some work, but it was all worth it in the end! I know that my students are moving on to the next year feeling motivated and confident.
These toolkits are essential for any teacher. They empower and enable you to address the root cause of behavior and not just put a bandaid fix or temporary solution on it. Rewards and punishments are poorly designed bandaid solutions that do more harm then good. I love how this resource really enables you to meet the needs of all students and be proactive.
I took a break from classroom teaching because I was not equipped to lead a class and manage behavior. Student teaching during the height of vocid really didn't help. I am returning to the classroom and invested in this resource because I know it will help me be my best and help me meet my students needs and set up systems that meet my students needs.
I have dug into the Environmental toolkit as I plan my classroom next year and and added all kinds of things to my Amazon wishlist to make a classroom environment that will be prevent behavior challenges. With the strategies of using colored tape and color coding parts of my classroom, making the classroom more sensory friendly with light covers and more comfortable. When I design my seating chart and my seating layout I know to consider things like students being able to see the door. I have thought of some ideas and activities I will do to have students help decorate the classroom to feel a sense of ownership over it.
I love how detailed this resource is. It tells you exactly why each strategy will work and what to consider. It is all based in research and what is best for students. I am excited to use the student interview questions with my class at the begining of the year to create community agreements and figure out routines and procedures that will work for our unique class community.
There is so much information and links to even more information and a lot of actionable strategies.
I also love the implementation reflection questions so that you can be very intentional about how you use the toolkits to ensure you are doing right by all of your students!
I don't know if any better resources to invest in.
I really appreciate Brittanyās attention to her (and my) studentsā needs. The resources in the bundle help me reframe behavior through that student-centered lens and really focus on the root instead of only what is observable.
