I had a student with diagnosed ADHD who was hardly getting any work done, was constantly off-task, and was interrupting lessons and the learning of others ALL THE TIME. I had a conversation with this particular student using the interview questions provided in the toolkit. After having the conversation, the student did a COMPLETE 180! He's now one of the first to get his work done, he's checking in with me constantly to make sure he's on track, AND he lets me know if something in our classroom environment or anything else is hindering him from being successful. He's making such positive choices for himself and it's been amazing to see! Once his needs were met, he was a completely different kid!
I was excited to receive the ADHD toolkit because I have a lot of students who have the diagnosis. While all of the explanations can be helpful, I was more so looking for more hands on strategies. As a clinician I am fairly knowledgeable of what ADHD is and how the characteristics are manifested in different behaviors, so I find myself skipping a lot of the intro sections and going straight to the tips and strategies. The toolkit is very wordy and overwhelming to the eye and there are lots of hyperlinks that can be a bit messy to navigate but I have been able to pull a few helpful tips to share with teachers and implement with my students.
Hey Amelia! Thank you so much for this feedback. We are constantly looking for ways to improve our products and make them more user friendly! We appreciate your honesty and will take your thoughts into consideration when we publish our revised version.
The Toolkit is excellent, comprehensive, and well-organized. The tips are carefully selected and will undoubtedly be applicable.
My ADHD and ASD 11 year old daughter is often labelled as defiant and difficult but this kit has been a game changer for her teachers and learning team to understand what is behind her behaviour and giving her a voice.
She attends a private, (very expensive) school which has not really progressed past one size fits all approach where they try and force neurodiverse kids to fit the standard mould. I bought this kit for the school and took them through it in person. They are now going to adapt its strategies into their classrooms.
As my daughter says, she shouldn't be treated as different. They should learn how to be more inclusive.
Thank you so much for your passion and efforts with this toolkit. 🙏🙏
